and it's colder behind this storm system across the midwest, 20 in minneapolis and teens in rapid city. we have another storm we're tracking as it heads eastbound the next couple days. our current snowstorm producing more snow across maine. reports of over a foot across the many areas in new england and that snow still coming down. coastal areas dealing with rainfall an winds over 30, 40 miles an hour especially overnight. i her the wind howling. we have winter storm warnings for upstate new york, vermont, new hampshire and maine. and many of these warnings are in effect until early tomorrow morning because that wind, even after the snow is done, the wind will continue to blow snow around and produce white house in -- whiteout conditions. many places over a foot of snow on top of what we have on the ground. we're looking at another storm impact thing the midwest and areas hit hard by tornadoes. the storm system had severe weather with it, unusual for december in alabama, mississippi and the next storm is going to produce thunderstorms and areas of rain and basically heading northeast,

developing story we're following, secretary of state hillary clinton in a new york city hospital this morning being treated for a blood clot. her spokesperson says the clot was discovered during a routine followup exam yesterday in the wake of the concussion she suffered several weeks ago following a fall. now, nbc news chief science and health correspondent robert bazell is live from new york there in front of the presbyterian hospital. bob, what do we know about secretary clinton's condition and how she is being treated right now? >> richard, we know precious little. we had the one statement yesterday evening from secretary clinton's staff that said she suffered a concussion that was related -- excuse me -- suffered a blood clot related to this concussion. usually when somebody has a blood clot related to a concussion it is in the brain and would not be treated with anticlotting drugs. she is being treated with anticlotting drugs. so maybe she has a blood clot someplace else. we don't know anything -- there have been no statements today either from the hospital here or from the state depart

to the foundation's intent to sue the city for its city seal which contained a cross and a billboard that included elements of that city seal that was in a city park. mr. speaker, this is an outrage. the seal and sign are harming no one. they are widely embringsed by the citizens of bulla kansas. it contains the words values and progressive ideas. unfortunately in this case progressive ideas are making a war on traditional values and it's high time for that to stop. some will claim the first amendment to the constitution requires the cross be removed from this seal and sign. that's hogwash. the first amendment begins with the words congress shall make no law prohibiting the free exercise thereof. in this instance congress made no law. for that reason alone the first amendment does not apply. furthermore, it cannot be set that this simple seal in any way is an establishment of religion. there is no officially supported secretary or denomination in the manner, this is not in any way an endorsement of any particular religion or any religious denomination. in short the first amendment as originally wr

about the art of compromise and how much it is now viewed in this city? >> well, you know, is valued to talk about it. everybody back home want people to come back to washington and work together. and then they send people back here who have committed not to work together. that makes it very difficult. if you have in the senate in block of individuals who will not compromise and think of compromise as a for that -- as a four-letter word, which is not, then it becomes difficult to merge ideas and find compromises and accommodations in process or implementation as opposed to your principles. no one is asked to compromise his or her principles when you are talking about compromise. maybe how you go about doing something, not exactly eliminating your view about one thing or another. i think the word compromise is over used, underutilized and misunderstood by an awful lot of people. it does not mean throwing in the towel. i have a couple of friends that i've talked to about compromises. in one instance, their idea of a compromise is when i see if there is a way. -- when i see it their way

much time in pennsylvania think of it as a -- a state of big cities and small towns but they may miss the -- the substantial agricultural economy that we have. agribusiness in our state is a $46.4 billion industry. 17.5% of pennsylvanians are employed in the so-called food and fiber system. and one of the questions we have to ask is: what does this all mean? well, i think it certainly means that at least we need a five-year farm bill, not -- not a short-term farm bill. we do too much of that around here on -- on other areas of public policy. we should do what we've always done in the senate long before i got here, passing five-year bills with regard to the farm bill. it does create economic opportunities in rural areas. it sustains the consumers and businesses that rely upon our rural economy. the senate-passed farm bill would reduce the deficit by approximately $23 billion through the elimination of some subsidies, the consolidation of programs, and -- and producing greater efficiencies in the delivery mechanisms in programs. now, we're having a big debate about the end of the year a
